  • 1. Whats makes Leachianus Geckos so cool and desirable?

    • The largest of all Gecko Species. They are the Kings and Queens of the Gecko kingdom.  Nothing comes close to the size, the soft velvety texture, the wrinkly skin, the bean bag like weight and of course the crazy cool feeling of holding a real life Dinosaur.  Originating from a semi tropical chain of islands called New Caledonia in the Southwest Pacific Ocean.  The "locality" is based on whether they are are from the main island named Grand Terre(GT for short), or from various smaller satellite offshore islands such as Nu Anna or Pine Island   The mainland island of Grand Terre is much larger and has bigger forests with taller trees so animals from there tend to be large, long and darker with less pattern. Animals from the various isles tend to be smaller and more bulldog structured as the trees are shorter with more shrubbery. There is a ton of info on google along with the Facebook groups that go over all of this.

  • 2.  What is special about Razzberry Geckos?

    • We helped Pioneer the color-GT movement, along with a handful of other breeders and the original godfathers of Leachies who brought them here. Through very selective breeding and using older more original genetics we were able to create a very strong line of large GT with the most brilliant colors. This is unique as in the wild most Geckos from Grand Terre do not have color as a general rule.  As well, along the way we found and proved out the Melanistic gene among this line and the fact that it indeed existed in more than one line in all of Leachianus.  While other breeders may have similar lines, ours are the original, strongest genetics that have been hand picked, held back, and bred to create some of the best Leachianus bar-none.  So no matter what you purchase from us, whether its a mind blowing stunner or just a solid looking pet, you will be getting pure-fire-quality genetics, no matter which line you choose.

  • 3.  How do I purchase a Leachie Gecko from you or get on the waiting list?

    • Send me a Direct or Private Message on Instagram or Facebook.  Or use the Contact button here and send me an email. Let me know what the desired look or line is, price/budget, and expectations of the animal and I will try to match up the perfect fit. We can discuss payment options and delivery as well.

  • 4.  What's up with The Melanistic Razzberry? Is that something I can purchase easily?

    • Melanism is the increased development of the dark-colored pigment melanin in the skin. In Leachies, we have proven the Melanistic gene to be recessive and follows all the rules of the punnett square.  At the current time we are not producing many Melanistic animals. We had a few setbacks in our program that have limited our production making them even more elusive. The Mel Razz are some of the worlds best Melanistic Leachies with some completely covered in pattern with the craziest pastel Razz colors and thick fuzzy black streaks.  There is a waiting list, feel free to check in from time to time.  But we do not release many.....Yet. They are very expensive due to the exclusivity and low production numbers. They are usually acquired by the highest level of collector and or breeder due to the cost and popularity.

  • 5.  Why are these Geckos so expensive compared to others?

    • They do not produce many viable eggs in a season nor are the adults very prolific, this is a major factor in the cost. A successful season will yield 8 eggs. A failed season is an easy 0. This is very low compared to other reptiles and Gecko species. They also are very intelligent and picky about who you offer them to pair and mate with. Since they are known to pair bond for life this can be difficult as a rejected mate can lead to injury or death.  This means you must have many more geckos on hand to make sure you have options on who you pair to who as sometimes the Love Cupid doesn't hit the planned bullseye. As well, due to their size they need sufficient room to keep them which further reduces space and numbers. It is a commitment to own higher numbers and your whole life is affected by it. It takes a high level of commitment and responsibility to keep and breed these.

  • 6.  Will I be able to get a stunning holdback quality Gecko from you?

    • As much as I wish we could sell all of our best animals and "holdbacks", we need to keep our very best animals to further our program and keep being able to offer everyone other great looking animals through selective breeding. You can get a non-holdback animal and it will still be impressive even if it isn't the top draft pick. The crowd will still go wild when you see it in person, they always look better in person than in pictures. If used for breeding later on, for sure you are going to pop out some unbelievable babies since they carry all that same fire DNA. We have breeders all over the world incorporating our genetics into their programs with great success.

  • 7.  Why are some animals from the same line priced differently?

    • When making custom creations like we have, you will always get a variety of visual quality among the offspring.  Some might share both qualities from both parents and have a new unbelievable combination appearance, while others might show more of just one parent, and so forth. Through our trained and experienced eyes we identify the different levels of desirability on the visual appearance and price them according to wow factor and demand. Think of it like cars, you might get the same car but there are various sub-models all based on the same platform but some come more loaded with options and features and the price reflects it.

  • 8.  What does "Fired up and Down" mean?

    • Similar to a Chameleon, these geckos pigment can get easily change colors going from very pale to very dark depending on the temp/humidity and overall temperament of the Gecko.  What this means is that you may see a gecko looking pale and boring one day, and then completely different, darker, and mesmerizing another day. It keeps things exciting! Some animals when fired down might turn lime green and purple. Then when fired up, a dark green with crimson red. It definitely gives a feeling of anticipation with an awesome reward when you catch them at the right time. This also makes it hard to just go take pictures of animals for clients, to show their full potential we must catch them at the right time.

  • 9.  What is "The Boring Stage"?

    • When Leachies hatch out they are usually very brilliant and energized giving you a nice show of their future potential. The following weeks you will be blessed and surprised to see them "fire up" very often.  Soon after however, a few months in they can typically get pale and uncolorful and look quite bland making it hard to identify their potential. This is important to know and trust  that the animal will soon come out and show all of its brilliance. Some sooner than others but usually by around a year. At adult age you see them more stabilized somewhere in between with a more rare but just as exciting "fire up".  All animals vary differently but this is the average.

  • 10.  Is the sex of the animal 100% guaranteed?

    • Definitely not, unless proven and/or with older animals.  We start to observe the sex of babies after a week or two old. We use a led magnifying lens to look for black head pores or lack thereof right above the Vent area between the hind legs.  Occasionally under a month you can visually see bold darker pores making it a probable but obvious male. However many animals can show slight bumps which never develop into pores and it ends up being Female later. But this also means it can have light bumps and not turn into dark pores until nearly 1.5-2 years making it male, as an extreme example.  Therefore animals are sold as probable until they are proven adults.  Tp be successful breeding you need multiple options which can lead to needing a few more animals than thought. Nothing is guaranteed.

  • 11.  Where can I find care information on how to care for these Geckos?

    • At some point I plan on making some demonstrations I will link here.  Until then I am happy to answer questions for qualified customers. There are many videos and information with quick google searches. I have some particular insight myself to share that can really narrow it down when you purchase an animal from me. You can watch hours of keepers showing how they do things on YouTube

  • 12..How important is Humidity and how much do these Geckos need?

    • Humidity is paramount to these Geckos. However so is a dry out time.  All enclosures vent and dry out differently. The temperature of the room also influences dry out time.  A Gecko should not be left in a wet enclosure more than a day or two. There should be a proper dry out time before re-spraying, at least 12 to 24 hours. There is no exact rule or science. It is up to the keeper to learn their systems.  The warmer the room the faster they will dry out and the more paramount it is to humidify. As well if it is cold season a little spray goes a long way. Plastic tubs without excess vent holes will hold humidity so long an young animal can sit in water and its health will suffer and can quickly perish. Same goes for hot and dry climate, they can take a bit of heat but should be matched with equal humidity. It is also important to differentiate between humidity in the air and wet surface. The wet surfaces is what will do them quickly. A humid atmosphere with good ventilation would be a different story and ideal like in nature but can be hard to replicate at home. Some common sense goes a long way.

  • 13.  Is there a health warranty?

    • I stand behind my animals and their health. As simple as the care to these animals is, incorrect and improper keeping can make their health go downhill quickly. Therefore we do not offer an in-writing warranty after delivery of animal. However we are here to help and every situation is different. If an animal arrives on-time but dead or dies immediately after receiving, we will replace it with equal value after evaluation and approval. We do not offer refunds at any time. Credit only. Out of country, it is buyer beware considering the extended shipping times and transfers.

    • This is not the Amazon Prime of Leachies. We are a mom n pops style operation. We practice good business and want to make things right when appropriate.  We have an outstanding track record in the hobby for delivering better than anticipated animals that arrive alive, healthy, and thriving.

  • How Does the Shipping Work?

    • When shipping at our destination, at the Fedex hub, and your location is over 40F and under 90F. We will ship overnight Fedex with a proper box and packaging. You will get tracking information when we create the label sometime beforehand or the day of shipping. We use 3/4" foam thick insulation with proper ply cardboard box. The white box means they know its a perishable and is handled better. We use slow release heating packs, Cryopaks, and Ice packs to combat different shipping temps. We ship to the Fedex Hub, where you can go the next morning to retrieve your package with proper ID. It shows on the box it is a harmless reptile and states the contents of the box showing Leachianus Gecko. They keep it in a room temp room until you come for pickup but the earlier you get it the better. Please don't open the tub until you get home. You can open the box and see the animal but keep the tub closed. These guys are super leapers! Don't bet the one who says it got loose in the car!

  • 14.  What do these Geckos eat and what brand Diet to you recommend and use?

    • In the wild they are known to eat bugs, rotting fruit, small rodents and even birds among the GT locales. In captivity you can feed them fresh fruit without seeds. Specifically Watermelon, Banana, Apricot, Peach and Mango. You can also feed them an occasional Pinky mice or Roach if they will take it. Many of the animals raised on fruit smoothie diet is they are used to licking and don't have a live feeding response. Some do. No need to overthink it however. Pangea Reptiles line of commercial diet is beyond healthy and proven for successful reproduction. The Breed and Growth formula is our favorite for all ages but we also mix in the Fruits n Insects and the Fig n Insects as well.  We highly recommend Pangea Reptiles for all you Keeping and Husbandry needs.
